Engagement Session Location Ideas
There are so many great places for engagement photos in the Madison area. Below is a short list of some most often selected by our couples and some their unique features.
Allen Centennial Gardens
Located on the UW campus, Allen Centennial Gardens can be considered a micro-sized version of Olbrich Gardens. It's a very short trip from here to the Memorial Union Terrace and couples sometimes like to split their engagement session between both locations.
Memorial Union Terrace
An evening on the UW campus isn't complete without visiting this spot. It's a popular hot-spot for grabbing a beer and a brat and enjoying the cool breezes coming off Lake Mendota. It features piers, the iconic Terrace chairs in normal and giant-sized versions and lots and lots of students. Not the place to pick if you're looking for a quiet isolated session.
Madison Capitol Building
It's hard to find a more iconic Madison location than the Capitol Building. Because of the limited lighting, indoor sessions can be a bit tricky, but the beautiful staircases and maincured lawns surrounding the building make this spot very popular. Downtown events are often held here, so it's best to check the Capitol's calendar before scheduling your engagement session.
Olbrich Gardens
Olbrich Gardens is an exceptionally beautiful location with dozens of hidden nooks, water featues, and of course every color of blooming flower imaginable. It's an ideal choice for couples looking for a romantic and colorful engagement experience. There is a photo permit fee of approximately $30 required to shoot here.
Olin Park
Olin Park is the single best spot to capture the icon Madison skyline. There are short piers, a small beach area and plenty of grass for a picnic style session. There's also a small playground for whimsical play. It tends to be a bit buggy during the summer.
UW Arboretum
If nature is your thing, then the UW Arboetum might be the perfect spot for you. Acres of trees, gardens and grassland are key features here. Depending on the season, it may be a good idea to bring insect repellent.
Tenney Park / Beach
Tenney Park and Beach offers sunset photos over Lake Mendota, grassy picnic spots, a variety of bridges and a playground. It easily makes our list of the top 3 engagement session locations in Madison.
